Accessible Environments Advisory Group
UTS is committed to equal access and opportunity for all people. The University's Accessible Environments Policy (AEP) ensures all UTS buildings are planned with reference to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the UTS Disability Action Plan.
This includes:
- the design, construction and maintenance of all the physical facilities of the University
- access, egress and circulation, continuous accessible pathways of travel, and satisfactory linkages with transport
- amenities, such as toilets, furniture and equipment
- communications, including hearing augmentation, lighting and signage
Accessible Environments Advisory Group (AEAG)
The AEAG assists the University to develop a coordinated and strategic approach to identifying, prioritising and resolving built environment access issues, and scheduling implementation in a phased manner based on feedback from stakeholders about priority areas.
The Group is made up of representatives from:
- Nominee of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Teaching, Learning and Equity), appointed in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Resources), who will act as Chair of the Accessible Environments Advisory Group
- Equity & Diversity Unit (nominated by the Director, EDU)
- Facilities Management Unit (nominated by the Director, FMU)
- Student Services Unit (nominated by the Director, SSU)
- Security Services (nominated by Manager, Security Services)
- Environment, Health & Safety Branch (nominated by Manager, EH&S)
- One staff member with disabilities (nominated by the Director, EDU)
- At least one student with disabilities
- Chair, Disability Action Plan Committee (or nominee)

Reporting Access Issues
It is UTS practice that where access issues are not addressed by planned capital works, improvements may be made upon request by staff or students with disabilities (subject to cost or technical constraints if relevant).
If there are access issues you would like raised, please contact the Special Needs Service if you are a student, or Equity & Diversity Unit if you are staff.
