Women in Research
The Research Issues for Women at UTS Report (PDF, 332.19KB) was completed and launched in late 2004.
This report investigated the experiences of women in research positions at UTS and issues that limited their research participation. The report, based on issues identified in focus groups with 80 academic women, made recommendations about recognising and addressing the structural barriers faced by women in terms of research time and career progression; recognising the competing factors which limit research participation; improving flexible work practices for staff with family responsibilities; increasing professional networking opportunities and mentoring; improving research data collection by gender; addressing gender imbalances on research committees; valuing and recognising the contribution of women to research.
Researching Women: Profiles of Women in Research 2004 (PDF, 378.47KB) was launched as a companion document to the Research Issues Report. The Profiles publication celebrates the diversity of women's contribution to research at UTS and highlights outstanding research contributions made by women.
In response to the issues identified in the report, UTS established an Early Career Women Researchers Program in 2005. The Advisory Group comprises senior academic women, early career researchers, and representatives of the Equity & Diversity Unit and the Research and Innovation Office. Please contact the Equity & Diversity Unit for further information about the Early Career Women Researchers program.
