Workplace Disability Fund
The UTS Workplace Disability Fund provides funding for workplace adjustments and equipment to assist staff and prospective staff with disabilities.
The majority of staff with disabilities require no special equipment or adjustments to their work. For a number of people with disabilities however, the provision of specific equipment, software, office modifications, or assistance with other needs can be significantly beneficial.
Anti-discrimination legislation requires UTS to provide reasonable adjustments to ensure equitable employment for people with disabilities.
The Workplace Disability Fund covers the cost of adjustments of up to $2,000 per annum for any staff member with a disability.
Examples include:
- modifications to the workplace including rearrangement of existing work spaces to accommodate a person with a mobility disability
- purchase of voice recognition software
- payment for scribes and Auslan interpreters
- a consultant to provide training in computing techniques for a staff member with a visual impairment
- disability awareness training for fellow staff members
- an attendant to support a staff member with a disability attending a conference
- funding is not available for insurance related claims (e.g. workers compensation, compulsory third party, or public liability insurance). Should an insurance claim be pending, WDF funding may be sought as an interim arrangement. Reimbursement to the Fund would be expected upon claim settlement.
- funding is not available for equipment that a work area would usually provide (e.g. ordinary telephones, desks and chairs).
