Australian Indigenous People
The Equity & Diversity Unit coordinates a number of programs for Indigenous staff. These include:
- Wingara Indigenous Employment and Career Development Strategy
- Indigenous Staff Network
The Indigenous Staff Network has been established in 2005 under the auspices of the Equity & Diversity Unit and the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning. The University has made a commitment in the latest Enterprise Agreements to support this network and to implement other professional development strategies for Indigenous staff. - Indigenous Women's Network
- Indigenous Leadership workshop
- the development of policy to assist Indigenous staff, e.g Community Leave.
The Equity & Diversity Unit also coordinates a number of forums designed to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to work on areas of joint interest and concern:
- Reconciliation Working Party
- Women's Business@UTS events offer opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous women to come together in an atmosphere of sharing, support and learning.
Community Leave (Cultural and Religious Events and Ceremonies)
UTS has a commitment to providing community leave for staff to participate in significant cultural and religious events and ceremonies that are not covered by public holiday provisions. Options include paid leave, leave without pay or time-in-lieu to allow staff to participate in cultural and religious events and ceremonies that occur during their normal hours of work. Indigenous Australian staff members are also entitled to two weeks' unpaid cultural leave each calendar year for cultural or ceremonial purposes and one day's paid leave in order to participate in NAIDOC Day.
