U@UTS Day
U@UTS Day is an annual event that provides a taste of university life to Year 10 students from Priority Schools across NSW. UTS looks forward to hosting over 200 students from around 20 high schools each year, including some country-area schools.
The purpose of U@UTS Day is to give students an insight into university life, and encourage them to consider university education as a viable option after they finish school. Many of the high school students who will attend U@UTS Day are the first in their family to consider studying at university.
At U@UTS Day, the visiting students participate in a variety of faculty-led interactive workshops. All UTS faculties contribute to the program by offering hands-on activities that relate to the students' fields of interest, as well as advising students on their senior high school subject choices, pathways to further study, and career opportunities.
U@UTS Day also includes faculty and campus tours, talks by UTS staff and enrolled students, and a question-and-answer session led by a panel of Peer Networkers who discuss aspects of student life such as finding accommodation, working while studying, managing the costs of university and selecting courses.
In previous years, the schools’ responses to U@UTS Day have been overwhelmingly positive, with Careers Advisers commenting that exposure to university life helps their students to focus on study and make better informed subject choices, as well as helping to break down social and cultural barriers that may otherwise limit their students' tertiary education and career horizons.
