What are TPV Scholarships?
Holders of TPVs are usually required to pay international student fees if they wish to study at an Australian university. This includes students who have completed their schooling in Australia.
The TPV Scholarships assist financially disadvantaged students by covering course tuition fees while students remain on a Temporary Protection Visa. If students are granted permanent residency they will be transferred to a Commonwealth supported place.
Temporary Protection Scholarships are available for all UTS courses provided the applicant has met academic requirements for the course.
Who can apply for TPV Scholarships?
Applicants who are holders of a Temporary Protection Visa (sub-classes 785, 786, 447, 451). Refugees on bridging visas will be considered on a case by case basis.
Applicants for the scholarships must:
- demonstrate that they are on a low income.
- provide a personal statement about why they are interested in their nominated course
- meet academic matriculation requirements. In most cases the applicant needs to have obtained the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 qualification either here or overseas.
- meet English language proficiency requirements (which are automatically met if the applicant has completed Year 12 in Australia).
Applicants who are not able to provide evidence of their previous qualifications because of circumstances relating to their refugee experience may be able to undertake an alternative assessment process.
