The Aims of Women @ UTS
Women@ UTS aims to:
provide professional development opportunities for all UTS women
promote relevant UTS programs to women
facilitate connections, collaborations and networking
increase women's visibility including early career researchers, women in non-traditional fields and aspiring leaders
increase the representation of women in senior positions
align with the UTS Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Plan and the strategic direction of the University
Principles of Women @ UTS
Women @ UTS is based on the core principles of inclusiveness, recognising women's diversity, flexibility in delivery and collaboration.
Organisational capability and a stronger sense of community are built through the involvement of internal key speakers at forums and workshops.
Facilitated introductions, the sharing of personal experiences, senior/junior and peer mentoring are inherent in the design of the program.
"Bigger picture" thinking is encouraged, including the individual's alignment with the strategic directions of the University, as well as development of specific skills.
Research projects aim to ensure that the University continues to reflect on the impact of its organisational culture and practices on women employees.
The Program has also targeted cohorts of women with particular developmental needs such as Early Career Researchers, women in supervisory positions, women in non-traditional fields of employment, and women based on satellite campuses.
Specific Employment Issues that Women @ UTS seeks to address include:
- Promotion of women into more senior positions within the organisation, including the strategic development of qualified women in 'feeder groups'
- Increased support and visibility for women in the early stages of their research careers
- Recruitment, support, retention and valuing of women in non-traditional fields
- Support for women in administrative roles in non-supervisory positions
- Retention and support of Indigenous women in the workplace, and active relationship building between Indigenous and non-Indigenous women
- Addressing work / life balance issues
- Retention of women employees
- Support for new staff through the building of a stronger sense of community in a rapidly changing workforce
The Women@ UTS Executive Group
Women @ UTS is advised by a diverse group of dynamic women from across the university - senior and junior, from faculties and divisions, cross-campus, and in academic and support roles. Senior and alumni UTS staff share their knowledge, experience and wisdom at events throughout the year.

What staff say about the Women @ UTS Program
"I just wanted to say thank you very much for the support you gave me in applying for promotion. As you can see, it achieved the desired end result and I am enormously grateful to yourself and the other members of my 'interview panel'. You gave me excellent advice and I seemed to be able to apply it in the interview."
"I was very glad to have attended today's session of Women at UTS. As quite a young staff member here, it was great to hear informative thought-provoking exchanges amongst fellow female staff members, whom I look up to as role models!"
"Thanks for organising the Blue Stocking Choir. I really enjoyed it on many levels - and I think one of the great benefits has been getting to know a variety of people from across UTS. The choir has made working at UTS more enjoyable, and has made UTS seem a smaller and friendlier place. Professionally I have benefited from contacts both in research areas as well as admin functions. And of course there is the laughter, relaxation and sense of achievement that has been part of the process - a very valuable experience!"
"I will be looking forward to networking with contacts made at the session"
"thanks again for putting together such a useful workshop in the first place…The blend of speakers, styles and topics offered a very comprehensive and enlightening program about what lies ahead."
"I started out feeling the process was too daunting (academic promotion) and ended up feeling positive."
"Packed with valuable information."
"refreshing, open and supportive feel"
