Student Equity Update
UTS reports annually to the Department of Education, Science and Training on its equity strategies and outcomes. Higher Education Support Program funding requires universities to satisfy the following criteria:
1. Provision of outreach programs
2. Provision of support services
3. Administration of the Commonwealth Learning Scholarships
4. Provision of an institutional equity scholarship program
The UTS Equity Update (PDF, 200KB) provides information about UTS progress on its aim of working with the particular characteristics of its city location and student catchment areas. Strategy objectives address the needs of a broad range of student equity groups, while selected strategies focus on strengthening UTS initiatives for Indigenous students and equity group students experiencing multiple-disadvantage.
The designated equity target groups are:
- students of Australian Indigenous descent (ATSI)
- students from low socio-economic status backgrounds (LSES)
- students from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB)
- students with disabilities (SWD)
- female students studying in non-traditional fields (WNT)
- students from rural and isolated areas (R&I)
Multiple disadvantage, in the context of the UTS Student Equity Strategy, is defined as students from a LSES background who also belong to another equity target group.
